The International Workshop of Analytical Psychology in Childhood and Adolescence has been a vital forum for the discussion of clinical and theoretical issues relating to child and adolescent analysis and psychotherapy from a Jungian perspective. It has been meeting yearly since 1984 with participants from the main centers of Jungian analytic training around the world.
The respect of different theoretical approaches, and the recognition of the need to dialogue amongst ourselves has been a significant aspect of the evolving culture of the workshop. The small group discussion and work group format has also made for a lively and engaging atmosphere. In each of the small groups, usually consisting of eight members, either a clinical case or a theoretical subject is discussed and reflected upon in depth. There are no formal papers or presentations, but rather an attending to the moment to moment interactions in the clinical work, the emergence of symbolic material and the reflection upon the framework of the therapy, as well as a discussion of theoretical topics.
Each year a theme for the workshop is voted upon by the entire group of participants, with the next year’s focus being the ‘new’ families of our contemporary era and their impact upon sexual identity formation. The next meeting, to be held in Syracuse, Sicily, should prove to be a stimulating and engaging encounter of diverse theoretical and clinical perspectives.
The workshop originally was the idea of two distinguished child analysts, Mara Sidoli of London and later the U.S.A, and Gustav Bovensiepen of Berlin. They both led the workshop for many years and provided a sense of unifying presence and depth in the initial years. Later, as the workshop matured it became a more self governing and self organizing body, and developed an ever expanding openness to new approaches to clinical and theoretical work. The foundation in the creative leadership of the initial founders and the formation of a well functioning organizing committee has enabled the workshop to expand and grow. Each year the workshop has chosen a theme in the area of child analysis and therapy for the participants to reflect and work upon. Its structure has facilitated a dialogue between the different schools of child analytical psychology, such as the work of Michael Fordham and the sandplay therapy methods originated by Dora Kalff.
The workshop provides the only international forum for the discussion of contemporary issues in the field of Jungian child and adolescent analysis and psychotherapy, and its growing diversity and the high level of theoretical discourse enables it to be an important addition to the world of Jungian theory and practice.

Le Workshop international des analystes jungiens d'enfants et d'adolescents est un forum essentiel pour la discussion des aspects cliniques et théoriques de l’analyse et de la psychothérapie de l'enfant et de l'adolescent dans une perspective jungienne. Il réunit chaque annéee depuis 1984 des participants venant des principaux centres de formation analytique jungienne à travers le monde.
Le respect des différentes approches théoriques et la reconnaissance du besoin de dialogue est un aspect significatif de notre travail. Le format de discussion en petits groupes et en groupes de travail crée une ambiance vivante et stimulante. Chaque petit groupe, généralement constitué de huit personnes, mène une discussion et une réflexion approfondies sur un cas clinique ou un sujet théorique. Il n'y a ni papiers ou présentations formels, mais plutôt une présence aux interactions du travail clinique, une émergence du matériau symbolique et une réflexion sur le cadre de la thérapie, ainsi qu'une discussion sur les sujets théoriques.
Chaque année, l'ensemble des participants choisit par vote un thème du domaine de l'analyse et de la thérapie d'enfants, qui sera proposé l'année suivante à la réflexion et au travail des participants. La prochaine rencontre, qui aura lieu à Syracuse, en Sicile, sera centrée sur les "nouvelles" familles de notre époque et leur impact sur la formation de l'identité sexuelle. Il devrait être le lieu d'une rencontre stimulante et passionnante de diverses perspectives cliniques et théoriques.
Le workshop est né de l'idée de deux analystes d'enfants de renom, Mara Sidoli (Londres, puis États-Unis) et Gustav Bovensiepen (Berlin). Tous les deux le dirigèrent pendant de longues années et y apportèrent initialement un esprit de profondeur et une présence unificatrice. Avec la maturité, le workshop devint ensuite capable de s'auto-gouverner et de s'auto-organiser, et s'ouvrit de plus en plus largement à de nouvelles approches du travail clinique and théorique. Son enracinement dans la direction créatrice de ses fondateurs et la constitution d'un comité d'organisation efficace permirent au workshop de s'étendre et de croître. Sa structure a facilité le dialogue entre les différentes écoles de psychologie analytique de l'enfant, comme le travail de Michael Fordham et les méthodes de jeu de sable introduites par Dora Kalff.
Le workshop est le seul forum international pour la discussion des problèmes actuels dans le domaine de l’analyse et de la psychothérapie jungiennes de l'enfant et de l'adolescent. Sa diversité croissante et le haut niveau du discours théorique en font un important contributeur au monde de la théorie et de la pratique jungiennes.

Il workshop internazionale di Psicologia Analitica dell’infanzia e dell’adolescenza è un forum per la discussione sugli a spetti clinici e teorici dell’analisi e della psicoterapia dei bambini e degli adolescenti in una prospettiva Junghiana . Riunisce ogni anno dal 1984 analisti infantili provenienti dai maggiori centri di formazione Junghiana del mondo.
Il rispetto dei differenti approcci teorici e il riconoscimento del bisogno di confronto dei partecipanti è un aspetto significativo della evoluzione culturale del workshop.
La modalità di discussione in piccoli gruppi favorisce il costituirsi di un clima vivace e stimolante.
Ogni piccolo gruppo costituito di 8-10 persone conduce una discussione e una riflessione approfondita su un caso clinico e su un lavoro teorico.
Non ci sono scritti o presentazioni formali ma piuttosto attenzione alle interazioni nel lavoro clinico , all’emergenza di materiale simbolico , alla riflessione sul setting e sui temi teorici emergenti.
Ogni anno l’intero gruppo dei partecipanti sceglie il tema per l’anno successivo.
Il prossimo incontro si terrà a Siracusa, in Sicilia l’ultimo week end di maggio e riguarderà l’impatto delle nuove famiglie sulla formazione dell’identità sessuale.
Il workshop è nato da una idea di due analisti infantili : Mara Sidoli (Londra) e Gustav Bovensiepen (Berlino). Tutti e due vi hanno partecipato per anni apportandovi il loro prezioso contributo a cui si è aggiunto quello di altri analisti di spicco nel panorama internazionale Junghiano.
Da queste basi è nato un comitato organizzatore capace di rinnovarsi ,rispettando sempre lo spirito originario del gruppo, che grazie alla propria struttura ha facilitato il dialogo tra diversi orientamenti della Psicologia Analitica come la Sand Play Therapy di Dora Kalff e il lavoro di M. Fordham.
Il workshop è il solo forum internazionale per la discussione dei problemi attuali nell’analisi del bambino e dell’adolescente e il crescente livello di specificità del discorso teorico che ne emerge lo rende un importante contributo al mondo della pratica Junghiana
